Austin Capital Metro | Project Connect Program Program Manager Owner Representative
SYSTRA is a key member of the Program Manager Owner Representative (PMOR) team that is functioning as an extension of and supplement to the Capital Metro staff by providing specialized oversight and management expertise to develop and implement successfully the Project Connect program.
The region’s fast-growing population prompted CapMetro to begin drafting a plan for a new system of reliable and congestion-free services to connect the area and move people, not just cars. One of the most exciting and innovative transit improvement programs underway in the United States, the Project Connect program includes several short-term enhancement projects and a significant investment program for a high-capacity transit system in several corridors serving the Austin community. The plan features several proposed corridors to be analyzed for a variety of potential transit technologies, including bus rapid transit, light rail transit, autonomous rapid transit and commuter rail.
As the PMOR, our team is overseeing the work of consultants performing environmental assessments for various corridors leading to the selection of a locally preferred alternative and technology for each corridor. Each selected technology will be a part of a fully electric and connected system. Funding to support the selected program will be advanced in a public referendum.
SYSTRA is leading the transit technology evaluation component of the program and will lead systems integration and systems testing and commissioning in later phases of the project.
The team is providing unique experience and insight to drive innovation, developing designs that are cost-effective and can be implemented relatively quickly. SYSTRA’s unparalleled hands-on knowledge of electric and autonomous mobility solutions will shape project modes, alternatives and technologies choices during the environmental phase.
