NJ TRANSIT Egg Harbor Township Bus Maintenance Facility
Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey

SYSTRA was the designer of record for NJ TRANSIT's new 120-bus Egg Harbor Bus Maintenance and Operations Facility in southern New Jersey. The new facility was a long-awaited and much-needed replacement for the small shop attached to the Atlantic City Bus Terminal. With its opening, NJ TRANSIT achieved several objectives. For instance, maintenance operations were removed from the terminal, providing better security for property and personnel. The severely overcrowded and outdated shop was replaced with a facility better equipped to handle current and future buses. Finally, the facility is located in an area more properly zoned for its activities and has totally enclosed circulation, which minimizes noise within its vicinity.

This was the first such NJ TRANSIT facility to be sited in a corporate park, and great care was taken to ensure that it blended into its surroundings. SYSTRA's design included careful screening with berms and landscaping, which preserved the campus-like setting. In fact, the maintenance facility provided an excellent buffer between the rest of the office park and an adjacent quarry. In addition to complying with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations, the design of the new facility also promoted the conservation of resources through provisions for recycling and careful management of wastes.
