SYSTRA performed an analysis to compare the relative performance characteristics of a number of locomotive different types and the impact that each locomotive type would have on throughput capacity. The analysis included a comparison of train performance for the different locomotive types utilizing the differing tractive effort (acceleration) rates, braking rates, maximum authorized speed, train weights, and cab-signal code-rate interruptions. Gradients, curvature, civil speed restrictions, and signal system features were all considered in the analysis.
The analyses addressed the differing amounts of capacity required/used by trains propelled by each of the locomotive types that were evaluated.
