The position involves design of transportation infrastructure projects. SYSTRA’s diverse portfolio ranges from master plans to new designs for passenger stations and maintenance facilities. Our in-house interdisciplinary design team, consisting of planners, architects, and civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineers, provides the full scope of building design services for our clients.

Communications Engineer - Senior*


 

The position requires expertise in development of specifications including system design, installation, integration, testing, and commissioning of SONET, ATM, and Frame Relay systems; radio systems, RF propagation and licensing; telephony, land line telephone, cellular, and wireless communications; public address and customer information; and CCTV and Access Control and Intrusion Detection systems for mass transit environments.

Electrical Engineer/Designer*


 

The position assists with electrical engineering tasks related to 60 Hz electric power distribution; use of computerized network analysis tools is required; perform computerized calculations to support lighting design concepts; perform analysis relating to railroad electrical systems: DC and AC traction power analysis, stray current, grounding and bonding; assist project engineers and project managers with tasks related to Fire Alarm, Communication and Control systems design; provide general engineering support and CAD assistance (office support to other disciplines) as necessary.

Level of responsibility and compensation will depend upon applicant’s credentials and experience. Specific work tasks may include but are not limited to: Perform site investigations and report preparation; design development; develop electrical construction bid documents (Drawings, Specifications and Cost Estimates); perform electrical power and lighting calculations; perform construction related activities including the review of submittals, preparation of RFI responses and preparation of constructions cost estimates; perform code analysis and review.

Rail Operations Analyst*


 

SYSTRA Rail Operations Analysts undertake a variety of rail network analyses, studies, computer model development and technical report generation addressing a wide range of operating, engineering and performance issues. Rail Operations Analysts report to a Senior Rail Operations Analyst or one of SYSTRA’s regional managers of Rail Operations Analysis. Analysts are expected to work independently, be responsible for adhering to SYSTRA’s Quality Procedures and to travel to client sites as the need arises.

 

Requirements


 

Entry Level


Required: BA or BS degree in a technical discipline and high level computer skills (proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Access). Excellent organizational, technical writing and presentation skills are also required.

Desirable: Understanding of railroad and rail transit operations; familiarity with computer simulation models; software development process understanding (as the Analyst is part of our rail operations simulation software development and applications team).

 

Mid-Level


Required: Entry level requirements plus demonstrable rail industry experience in a position with solid exposure to operations.

Desirable: Two or more years’ direct experience with rail operations analysis, planning or administration.

 

Senior Level


Required: Mid-Level requirements with at least four years’ experience with rail operations analysis, planning or administration.

Desirable: Advanced degree in a technical discipline.

Security Engineers*


 

We have immediate openings for security engineers to work on regional transportation projects. Positions are available at a variety of levels involving a number of security aspects including design and implementation of security-related systems for transportation organizations, concept of operations for security operations centers, and training program development and implementation. Engineering areas include all aspects of design, installation, and commissioning of command, control, and communications systems; CCTV, DVR, and video analytics; data networks; and access control, intrusion and hazmat detection systems.

 

Requirements


 

B.S. (preferably in electrical engineering or computer science) with a minimum of 5 years’ experience. P.E. license a plus. Desirable current industry certifications include CISSP, MSNE, and CCE. Other relevant experience includes hardware engineering for distributed computer C3 systems and the development of security-related procedures. Software engineering and/or programming is not required. Must be proficient in the use of MS office and familiar with AutoCAD & Microstation. Transit industry experience is preferred.

Signal Engineers*


 

This position involves evaluation, design and construction management of all types of train control for both railroad and rail transit applications.

 

Requirements


 

The ideal candidate for this position will have a minimum of 5 years signal experience with a thorough knowledge and understanding of all phases of railroad signal engineering theory, terminology, FRA rules and regulations, relay signal logic including interlockings, automatic signals, cab signaling and automatic highway crossing circuitry. A BSEE degree and P.E. license are desirable but not essential.

Systems Engineers - Mid and Jr.*


 

Provide technical support in requirements & concept development, integration and interface management, test and commissioning, and training for command, control, and communication (C3) systems, including security, SCADA, and train control. Contribute to vulnerability assessments, reliability and safety analyses, proposal development, and project management. A primary focus will be technical assessment reviews for various transportation industry systems.

 

Requirements


 

BSEE or BSCE, 6+ yrs of applicable exp for mid-level; 3+ yrs for junior-level; real-time control systems design and implementation (e.g., SCADA), industry standard systems development and requirements management (e.g., IEEE). PE license is preferred for mid-level. Also required: proficiency with MS Office and project software; strong technical writing skills.

Train Control Engineer - Senior*


 

Individually or as a member of a team apply expertise in North American commuter rail, intercity passenger, and/or rail transit signaling practices for Automatic Train Control Systems in three or more of the following areas:

1. Fixed block signaling layout including safe braking analysis

2. At least three of the following types of signaling applied to non- electrified AND either AC of DC electrified railway:

  • Vital and non-vital wayside signaling system design
  • Vital and non-vital train stop signaling system design
  • Vital and non-vital power frequency cab signaling system design
  • Vital and non-vital power AF cab signaling system design
  • Vital and non-vital CBTC system design
  • Highway crossings at grade
    • Trainborne train control systems and vehicle system interface design
    • CTC and Supervisory control systems
    • Installation of signal cabling and apparatus
    • Project Management of Train Control projects
    • Development of training programs for Train Control systems
    • Provide system functional or detailed designs in accordance with project requirements:

  • Experience in technical writing

Track Engineer/Project Manager*


 

Immediate openings in our New Jersey and New York area offices for mid-level Railroad Engineer/Project Managers to work on regional transit projects for major capital programs.

Provides the technical expertise to lead the efficient designs and technical studies as part of the track and civil design group and is responsible for project management and/or technical lead for assigned projects. Will also assist in the planning, organization and management of the design and technical studies of the track group; maintain and expand existing client relationships; participate in business development; prepare financial and project reporting, evaluate and mentor subordinates; prepare technical papers for trade shows and journals; plan, organize, manage and control overall execution of a number of assigned projects in accordance with agreed objectives in terms of costs, time, quality, and customer relations.

 

 

Requirements


 

Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in railroad design and project planning and 5 years of experience in management/supervision. Experience required in track design (including horizontal and vertical alignment and special trackwork design) and civil design (including grading and drainage, utility clearance and/or relocations). Candidate must be able to perform geometric calculations, prepare plan sheets, and develop cost estimates, specifications and technical reports, including proposals. Candidates should have project management expertise, good leadership skills, hands-on experience in the preparation of engineering documents and efficient production capabilities. Requirements: BS degree in Civil Engineering, licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or the ability to obtain a PE within six months, proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD and Microstation; InRail and field work experience are a plus.

Senior Transportation/Intermodal Planner*


 

Working on the most important transit projects in our region, the successful candidate must have 5 to 10 years experience in providing technical leadership in the study and development of bus, bus rapid transit and intermodal transit services. Transit service/operational planning, statistical analysis of bus routes, headway/schedule development, vehicle requirements and facility development experience is required. Consulting experience preferred but relevant management experience in the public sector would be considered.

 

Anticipated responsibilities:

• Provides direction for the study and development of bus/BRT transit service plans including scheduling, service design, concept design, as related to routes and schedules, operational service planning studies and functional designs

• Manages or co-manages scope, schedule, budget, subconsultants, and multi-disciplinary staff for multimodal transportation projects or task orders

• Prepares technical materials, project reports, project correspondence, and other deliverables

• Develops and manages public outreach programs related to planning studies

• Provides interface between SYSTRA and our clients

• Provides constructive guidance to mentor and grow junior staff

• Participates in business development activities, including but not limited to managing preparation of letters of interest, qualification statements, proposals, and interview materials

• Participates in corporate business planning strategies related to the development of an intermodal planning specialty within the corporate planning practice

• Actively participates in at least one relevant professional organization

• Limited domestic travel may be required

 

Requirements


 

BS/BE/BA in Planning, Transportation/Civil Engineering or related field minimum; MS/MA in Transportation Planning or City Planning desirable. Five to ten years of relevant work experience with proven management capabilities. Registration by AICP or as a Professional Engineer is also desirable.

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical skills, organizational capabilities, proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Access.

Develop graphics for and assist with marketing/sales materials, including qualifications and proposal packages, presentations, newsletters, advertisements, brochures and other media and web site development and updates. Requirements


Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role involving hands-on production experience and solid PC experience using state-of-the-art graphics, illustration, drawing and photo software including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver. Familiarity with the technical requirements of the engineering industry is preferred. Bachelor's degree is highly desirable. Overtime sometimes required.
